Nellie
O'Berry, a native of Dade City, Florida, worked in Western Union Telegraph
offices in Bronson and Dunnellen before coming to Cedar Key
in the early 1930's as Office Manager.
She married Cleveland Yulee Thompson of Cedar Key in January 1936.
Nell is
said to have kept the Western Union Office open during the 1935 hurricane
until the telegraph wires came down. The office can be seen in a postcard
photo of downtown Cedar Key (mailing date: January 1941).
